The appearance and design of a space are signals of the values and views of an organisation or community. Attractive environments can attract employees, students or visitors and affect behaviour, working environment and satisfaction and eventually help generate significant economic value.

Our workplaces and learning environments are often designed as landscapes offering ample opportunity for sharing knowledge, working together in large and small groups or finding room for solitary concentration. However, it is important to find out how to create the right balance between concentration and knowledge sharing and actively shape a new learning and working culture together. Therefore, stakeholder dialogue and collaborative design processes are among the most important tools in the architect’s toolbox.

The following provides examples of buildings and spaces that can support people in their work or studies as well as productivity and learning for businesses and institutions.
